Movies in the park
The Standley recreation Center has had the Movies in the park, organized by Time Warner once in the past six years.
For the Movies in the park annual location in San Diego, check on http://www.timewarnercable.com/SanDiego/ Sweepstakes/2008/Q2/MoonlightMovies/default.html.
Standley Park Recreation Council
The park has an advisory board, the Standley Park Recreation Council, that is seeking new members.
This group of concerned citizens volunteer their time to advise Park and Recreation staff on matters related to park and recreation programs, community events, and equipment. They plan, promote, publicize, and help provide recreation opportunities for citizens in the University City community. Groups, clubs, and leagues using the parks are encouraged to send a representative to the meeting. Meetings are open to the public. We encourage and welcome your participation. The council meets every 4th Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm. If you are interested or have concerns about your neighborhood parks and recreation center, please, attend the meetings.
The U.C. 4th of July Celebration and Summer Concerts are desperately seeking new leadership and committee members to help plan both events. Neither of these events are possible without the help of community volunteers. If you are interested in participating on a committee, please, call the recreation center at 858 552 1652 and leave your name, number, e-mail and the committee you wish to join.
Some history...
The 21.75 acre site was acquired in 1974 and dedicated in 1978. The playground was remodeled and dedicated in 2002. The recreation center has had many upgrades over the past five years including new tile floors, gym floor resurfacing, bathroom renovations, window & shade replacement, and new furniture.
